Now, this is how one says goodbye to summer, with one last beach post!
(Pst, if you’re more interested in why you need to visit and what to do there, head to my more recent post, Why You Must Visit the Town of Hilton Head Island).
My family and I are fortunate in that every year, we spend a week in beautiful Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Why HHI? That’s what the cool kids call it by the way. Well, because it’s special!
My father-in-law will probably be upset that I’m telling you all about our secret island (sorry dad!) but Hilton Head Island is our favourite place to vacation, hands-down. I’ve never seen a more eco-friendly place in my entire life! You won’t find billboards, advertisements, or neon signs anywhere (not even the McDonalds arches light up). Instead of slashing trees and developing straight lines, on HHI you’ll find winding sidewalks and lush greenery everywhere, absolutely everywhere. But the best part has got to be the beach.
The HHI beach is truly amazing. What I find most striking about it is how drastically it changes with the tide – from huge beach to no beach in no time. Make sure you check the local listings for that info, not that it really impacts your stay since you’ll be having so much fun anyway. When the beach is wide open you’ll find everything from tanning, bocce, to bikers enjoining it. The sand is soft and the ocean might as well be your bathtub, just watch out for the jellyfish (a little vinegar and you’re all good, not to fear). My family and I enjoyed it so much, every single day. I did it with my hair in this braided do, when the weather hits 100F the hair definitely goes up, let’s be serious.
Hilton Head Island is easy to get to, you can drive or fly. My husband and I flew this year, and got to spend some time in nearby Savannah, Georgia to boot! Check that out here: “Anna in Savannah Ya’ll”, and for another glimpse of Hilton Head Island, check out my last StyleSTRUCK post as well: “Romper at the Cove”.
Goodbye beach!
