It’s a beautiful day y’all! Yes, this entire post is written with a Southern accent in mind, so I suggest you read it that way for the full effect…because I love myself a little Southern charm!
Seriously though, I was so excited to be back visiting Savannah, Georgia during my last vacation. As the oldest city in the entire United States, it provides no shortage of history. Many of you know about my vintage obsession. It’s no different in city-form (I felt similarly in old-town Panama). I walked around, or I should say swooned from place to place admiring the cobblestone streets, old churches, buildings, and squares (there are over 20 of them)!
As it often is in Georgia, it was hotter than a goat’s butt in a pepper patch! I opt for light and breathable materials on especially hot days, you won’t get away with polyester in the Savannah heat. So I gussied up in this top, an oldie and a goodie, 100% silk, and gifted to me by a dear friend. You’uns can find similar styles from H&M at the end of this post, ya hear?
Skirts with pockets. Pockets, pockets, pockets! I don’t know why so many of us women love pockets on unexpected pieces so much, but count me into the club. If I had ma druthers they’d be on everythin!
I wondered why so many buildings and streets were named Oglethorpe this and that (I had a great time at the Oglethorpe Mall, obviously). Then I learned that Savannah was actually founded by James Oglethorpe who designed the original town plan that still exists today. Thanks Mr. Oglethorpe, it’s pretty! So there’s a fun fact in case you also find yourself wondering (Googled and demystified).
Savannah is lovely, green, Southern and charming, but apparently it’s also haunted! I didn’t encounter anything spooky, but it’s well known for its haunted homes and mysterious tales. There are no shortage of tours you can take if you’re interested. I enjoy dreaming of shoes instead of ghosts, but that didn’t stop me from exploring everywhere I could.
Seriously some of the safest stairs in Savannah, historical stairs can be tricky! I was happy I didn’t wear heels, and was snug as a bug in my favourite espadrilles.
Visit, visit, visit! You’ll meet people from all over and find no shortage of Southern friendliness and hospitality. I could hardly contain myself from fittin’ right in y’all!
Thanks for lettin’ me sweet talk y’all with my attempt at soundin’ like a real Southern lady, even though I’m a real Canadian yankee. For more from my adventures down south, head over to “Secret Seashore: Hilton Head Island”.
Ya dern tootin!
