Back in 2022, while feeling somewhat isolated at home with a baby, I had the idea to start a Facebook group called Kingston Meet Up Moms.
Why did I start it?
Simple: I wanted to make mama friends. And, I wanted my kids to be able to make some friends, too!
But, as much as I wanted to build my village and connect with other mamas, I thought it might be kind of weird to just holler at random people passing by my window with a stroller saying “Hey! Crib nap isn’t happening today, can I rip around the block with you?” So, I used Facebook instead and started planning meet-ups.
Meet-ups: super casual get-togethers at the park in the warmer months, which grew to include indoor meet-ups at the Boys and Girls Club in the winter.
Today, the group has grown to more than 1.5k members. Woah!
And TONS of mamas have used the group to post their own casual get-togethers. At parks, pools, splash pads, trails, coffee shops, and more. As of today, we have local fitness instructors, artists, and health consultants running their own events and meet-up opportunities for local parents as well, so moms and caregivers alike can find like-minded individuals to connect with and build their village.
Because it doesn’t just happen when you have a baby.
But you don’t have to go it alone.
